In 2022, Roscosmos signed an addendum to the contract with NASA, according to which Russian cosmonauts will be able to prepare for work in open space on the American segment of the International Space Station (ISS), according to message on the website of the state corporation.
“In 2022, Roscosmos, under a contract with NASA, continued to provide engineering support services for the Zarya functional cargo block on the ISS, and also signed a number of additions to the contract with NASA … to train Russian cosmonauts for extravehicular activities and robotics on American segment of the station,” the message says.
In addition, the signed additions relate to the training of American astronauts for the implementation of “cross” flights, as well as support for NASA personnel and the organization of the work of its representatives at the Baikonur Cosmodrome.
On July 15, Roskosmos announced that it had signed an agreement with NASA on cross-flights of three Russian cosmonauts on the American Crew Dragon manned spacecraft and three American astronauts on the Russian Soyuz MS manned spacecraft in 2022-2024.
The essence of the agreement is that in the event of an emergency situation, which may be associated with the cancellation or delay of the launch of a Russian or American spacecraft, at least one Roscosmos cosmonaut and one NASA cosmonaut will be on board the ISS to service the Russian and American segments of the station.
