Astrakhan handball players defeated CSKA in Moscow

In the next round of the 2nd stage of the Russian Women’s Handball Super League championship, Astrakhanochka met in the capital with CSKA. Mikhail Izmailov’s team beat the current national champion with a score of 36:28.

These teams played each other quite recently, right before the break for the training camp of the national and youth Russian teams. On February 24, the army team won in the capital of the Caspian region with a score of 30:24. In the reporting match, the Moscow club was considered the favorite, but the Astrakhan handball players were determined to have a positive outcome for themselves.

During the first half, CSKA was never able to take the lead; Astrakhan were almost always in the lead. However, the teams went into the break with the score equal – 17:17.

Mikhail Izmailov’s team played the 2nd half of the meeting simply brilliantly and won with a score of 36:28. The most productive member of the Astrakhan team was Sofia Romanenko, who converted 10 of her 11 shots. Oksana Bessalaya and Ksenia Ilyina scored 7 times each.
On March 13, “Astrakhanochka” will play in Krasnodar with the local “Kuban”.
