“The parties held talks on the ways of Syrian-Russian strategic relations and mechanisms for their development in all areas that meet the interests of the two friendly countries and peoples,” the report says.
The agency also notes that the meeting discussed the regional and international situation. Assad confirmed Syria’s support for the special operation in Ukraine. Lavrentyev, in turn, pointed out that Russia has valued Syria’s “constructive position” since the start of the NMD, and noted that there are currently many countries in the world that “believe in Russia’s victory” despite pressure from the United States and their allies.
The President’s Special Representative also stressed that Russia positively assesses the trilateral meeting, which was attended by the defense ministers of Syria, Turkey and Russia, and considers it important to continue and develop these meetings at the level of foreign ministers.
The Hürriyet newspaper, citing sources, wrote that the foreign ministers of Russia, Turkey and Syria could hold a new meeting in Moscow from January 14 to 16. Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu will return to Turkey on January 14 after his working trip to Africa. Then the diplomat can go to Moscow until 16 January.
The Russian Foreign Ministry also said that a trilateral meeting is being prepared and will be held in Moscow, but the date has not yet been finally determined. The ministry added that they are waiting for confirmation on specific dates from colleagues from Turkey and Syria.
