Japan, South Korea and Taiwan have begun to reduce purchases of Russian coal, although they cannot completely stop importing it yet. It is reported by “Kommersant“.
Japan and Taiwan cut supplies the most. The first purchased 8.4 million tons of coal, which is 25 percent less than a year earlier. Taiwan cut purchases to 4.4 million tons, down 33.3 percent.
South Korea reduced imports very slightly: by 3 percent, to 12.8 million tons.
At the same time, the Japanese authorities have already stated that over time they intend to completely abandon Russian coal. South Korea intends to increase the import of Australian coal by one and a half times.
In turn, the Taiwanese state-owned energy company Taipower does not plan to conclude new contracts.
