Art critic Nina Moleva, who bequeathed Putin a $2 billion collection of paintings, has died

Writer, art critic and historian Nina Moleva died at the age of 98, the press service of the Ministry of Culture told RIA Novosti. The department clarified that the art critic died on February 11.
Nina Moleva – Doctor of Historical Sciences, Candidate of Art History, member of the Writers’ Union and the Russian Artists’ Union. Among other things, she wrote monographs on Russian painters, including Ivan Nikitin, Fyodor Rokotov, and Dmitry Levitsky. She also researched the history of Russian and foreign art.
Nina Moleva has been married to avant-garde artist Eliy Belyutin since 1955. After his death, she inherited a collection of works by old masters, including about 200 paintings. In April 2013, the art critic donated the collection in her will to President Vladimir Putin as the legal representative of Russia. The estimated value of the collection is approximately $2 billion.
