Commenting on the “shocking” eliminations of Germany, Belgium and Denmark, Wenger at a press conference on December 4, dedicated to the technical analysis of the group stage conducted by FIFA experts, noted that teams that focused on football and started well, such as Brazil and France, easily advanced to the 1/8 competition.
“Teams that didn’t disappoint in their first group stage game – because when you get to the World Cup you know you shouldn’t lose in the first match – these are teams with experience and they played their first matches well. Teams that were mentally prepared and focused on football and not on political demonstrations also performed well,” Wenger told reporters.
At the same time, the specialist did not comment on the political position of the international football federation itself, which suspended Russia from participating in all its tournaments precisely for political reasons.
