Armenia received more than 100,000 internally displaced persons from Karabakh

100,417 people arrived in Armenia from Nagorno-Karabakh, the government of the republic reported. According to authorities, 120,000 people lived there before the latest events. write “RIA News”.

Armenian government spokeswoman Nazeli Baghdasaryan said more than 21,000 vehicles crossed the Hakari Bridge in the Lachin Corridor. There are already 81,139 people registered in Armenia, and the government has allocated temporary housing to 32,200 displaced people.

Armenians began to leave the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh against the backdrop of “anti-terrorism measures” that Azerbaijan began in the republic on September 19. The next day, the Karabakh authorities announced the conclusion of agreements on a complete ceasefire, then negotiations took place between the delegation of the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh and representatives of the Azerbaijani authorities. As a result of the meeting, the Karabakh military began to surrender their weapons under the control of Russian peacekeepers.

On September 28, the president of the unrecognized republic, Samvel Shahramanyan, signed a decree on the termination of its existence from January 1, 2024 and the dissolution of all government institutions and organizations.

In the exodus of Armenians from Nagorno-Karabakh, the Kremlin is most concerned about the humanitarian aspect – whether normal living conditions will be ensured for these people, said Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov. He notedthat it is not possible to name those responsible for the fact that the Karabakh Armenians left their homes, because “there is no immediate direct reason for such actions.”

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev emphasized that he is confident in the successful process of reintegration of the Armenian population of Karabakh. On September 29 he promised ensure the security and protection of the rights of the population of the republic. According to him, the reintegration plan covers respect for religious, educational, cultural, municipal and all other rights of residents of the region, which are reflected in international conventions.
