The Armenian Parliament declared its readiness to become a candidate for EU membership

The issue of joining NATO has never been discussed in Armenia, but the republic is ready to become a candidate for membership in the European Union. The speaker of the country’s parliament, Alen Simonyan, announced this on Thursday, February 29.

At the briefing, the politician said that there was no discussion about the North Atlantic Alliance.

“As for the European Union, this is not a military union, we are ready to strengthen relations,” Simonyan said, adding that democracy is the largest security system.

Also, the speaker of the Armenian parliament noted that the republic is trying to “buy weapons in all possible places” and if “this confuses someone, then that’s their problem.”

Earlier, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan stated that the department there is no information about the freezing of Armenia’s participation in the CSTO. In turn, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that the republic had suspended its relations with the CSTO de facto, but if the situation in the organization does not change, then this will be done de jure.
