Armenia has agreed on the ambassador to Russia of the politician with curators from the CIA

Artashes Geghamyan: “After his appointment, Western intelligence services will have direct access to all information”

A deputy from the ruling party of Armenia “Civil Contract” (leader – Prime Minister Pashinyan) Gurgen Arsenyan confirmed the information about his candidacy for the post of ambassador of the republic to the Russian Federation. He stated that his documents were already in Moscow. But according to the Armenian media, the Russian Foreign Ministry decided to reject his candidacy due to repeated anti-Russian statements. It should be noted that the current Ambassador of Armenia to the Russian Federation Vagharshak Harutyunyan has not yet been officially recalled.

The day before, information appeared in the Armenian media about Yerevan’s intention to appoint Gurgen Arsenyan as ambassador to Russia instead of Vagharshak Harutyunyan. However, Moscow allegedly refused to issue an agrement to Arsenyan, although he recently did not take part in the parliamentary vote on the ratification of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court. Let us note that the reluctance of the state to see this or that person as an ambassador is usually expressed not by a direct refusal, but by a long absence of a positive response.

What could have caused Moscow’s negative attitude towards Arsenyan’s candidacy? For example, his statements regarding the Russian military presence in Armenia. At the beginning of this year, he stated that it “will not last forever” and is not a guarantee of the country’s security. In his opinion, after the withdrawal of the Russian military, Armenia will not pose a “threat” to Turkey and will become an ordinary neighbor for it. At the same time, he believes that Türkiye has never threatened Armenia. In some publications in the Armenian media, Arsenyan is called a “deputy oligarch”, who is distinguished by anti-Russian, pro-Azerbaijani and pro-Turkish views.

The current Ambassador of Armenia Vagharshak Harutyunyan, appointed in January last year, according to experts in the region, is one of the most “pro-Russian” Armenian politicians. He received Soviet and Russian military education, served in the Soviet army, and graduated from the Academy of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces in 1998. He twice served as Minister of Defense of Armenia, in 1992-1994 he was deputy chief of staff of the main command of the joint armed forces of the CIS, in 1994-1999 – deputy chief of staff for coordinating military cooperation of the CIS member states, representative of the Armed Forces of Armenia. He has good connections in Russian military and diplomatic circles.

As you might guess, Moscow was more than happy with this man as an ambassador.

– To Gurgen Arsenyan’s credit, he never hid his anti-Russian position. – said “MK” opposition Armenian politician and former mayor of Yerevan Artashes Geghamyan. – It is enough to raise his speeches from the rostrum of the National Assembly. He met the 2018 coup in the United States, where he stayed for a long time, welcomed it from there, immediately flew to Yerevan, and was included in the corresponding lists of Pashinyan’s supporters in the parliamentary elections. He was provided with excellent conditions for smuggling large quantities of cigarettes. All this was recorded in the Russian Federation, but since his business partners were Pashinyan’s relatives, this matter was hushed up. His handlers from the CIA and MI6, after his appointment as ambassador to the Russian Federation, will have direct access to all the information owned by the Armenian ambassador in Moscow. I hope that diplomats and intelligence services of the Russian Federation will not allow this appointment.
