Armenia filed a lawsuit against Azerbaijan in the UN court on charges of discrimination in Karabakh

Armenia filed a lawsuit at the International Court of Justice against Azerbaijan over alleged discrimination in Nagorno-Karabakh, should from a press release from the organization’s court.

Yerevan, citing Articles 41 and 73 of the court’s rules, sent a request on September 28 for provisional measures to preserve and protect the rights enshrined in the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination, the report said.

The Armenian side demands that Azerbaijan refrain from violating the convention, actions that will lead to the displacement of the remaining ethnic Armenians from Karabakh, and also asks to withdraw the military from civilian objects in Karabakh.

In addition, Yerevan calls on Baku to refrain from “taking punitive measures against current or former political representatives or military personnel of Nagorno-Karabakh.”

On the afternoon of September 29, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan reportedthat the UN mission will arrive in Nagorno-Karabakh in the coming days. It was clarified that the trip will take place in the coming days under the auspices of the UN Resident Coordinator in Baku.

On September 28, the president of the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, Samvel Shahramanyan, signed a decree on the termination of its existence from 2024 and the dissolution of all state institutions and organizations. The republic existed for 32 years.

This happened after Azerbaijani troops took control of the territory of Karabakh. The Karabakh authorities surrendered the day after the start of “anti-terrorist measures” by Baku.
