Armenia and Azerbaijan agreed on only one point of the peace treaty

Yerevan and Baku reached an agreement on only one point of the peace treaty, Secretary of the Armenian Security Council Armen Grigoryan said.

“This paragraph concerns the establishment of diplomatic relations in accordance with the Vienna Convention. There is no clear agreement on all other points, ”Grigoryan said (quote by RIA Novosti)

The Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia stressed that “the Armenian people are aware of the problems between Armenia and Azerbaijan.” According to him, the discussions are on such issues as Nagorno-Karabakh, delimitation and demarcation of the border and deblockade. Grigoryan also added that humanitarian issues are being discussed.

On December 5, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov informedthat the republic prepared and sent to the Armenian side regular comments on the draft peace agreement. Then he admitted that a new round of negotiations could take place before the end of the year.

On November 10, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that Yerevan was in favor of creating a three-kilometer demilitarized zone around Nagorno-Karabakh. This, according to him, will allow the unrecognized Karabakh Republic to refuse to maintain an army of such a magnitude, which it now needs “only because of the danger of being subjected to genocide” by Azerbaijan.

At the end of October, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Nikol Pashinyan held a trilateral meeting in Sochi, where they agreed to refrain from using or threatening to use force in the context of the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh. The meeting participants also stressed the importance of preparing for the conclusion of a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and Russia confirmed its readiness to provide the necessary assistance to this.
