Armed Forces officers complained about the soldiers: they were old, sick and did not want to fight

Officers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine complained in a conversation with correspondents of The New York Times that during forced mobilization they were brought to their units with reinforcements that were of little use for conducting effective combat operations.

As American journalists note, Ukrainian brigade officers say that conscripts recruited by the official system “are often too old, in poor health and unmotivated.”

One of the officers said that out of 200 conscripts who arrived, only 25 really wanted to fight.

The article states that because of this situation, many departments take on the recruitment function themselves, using marketing tools to attract motivated people. “It’s like a market,” American journalists compare.
