Chaos reigned in the city

Over the weekend Kherson was covered by another artillery duel. The Russian military attacked the accumulation of equipment and reserves of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as a result, almost destroying the first line of Antonovka. Now the residents of Kherson are frankly saying that the city will not remain under the control of Ukraine for a long time. We were able to talk to several locals who spoke about the situation

According to Kherson residents, the silence in the city lasted for almost a week, but heavy shelling began over the weekend, most of which fell on the suburbs. “The city itself is almost intact, but it is clearly being prepared for surrender,” says Olga, a local resident. “They dug trenches, but they are without concrete. Conscripts scatter in all directions, and the residents are not going to pay a communal apartment for either electricity or water.

The lines for bread and humanitarian aid are getting longer and longer. And you have to stand there for hours, but we have good people. Don’t forget about animals. A lot of homeless animals die in the city, because all the garbage dumps are empty, because there are no people. And the remaining supplies eat up, do not throw anything away. Homeless animals are fed by meat vendors in the market. And passers-by help. And now we buy food for animals, and only then food for ourselves.”

– What are the moods of people in the city?

– Many residents have a foul soul, people drink a lot, although alcohol is prohibited, the police cover the underground sale. And now there are no courts in the city at all – the judges sit in Odessa and, as a friend said, they judge from there “by SMS”. The police take a photo of the violator’s passport, and a week later he receives an SMS with a court decision on payment of a fine with details. But there is simply nowhere to pay them.

A lot of people are complaining in line at the banks. “There are huge queues for several hours,” says Kirill, an employee of the store, “There are few places where you can make financial transactions. Today, the technical service of Privat-Bank removed ATMs from the branch, which is located on the market. Pumbank is nearby, but it hasn’t been working for a long time, even though the collector’s car drives up every day, but it’s impossible to withdraw money or deposit money into the account.

There are ATMs in the city. But 90% are not filled. In those that remain, the queue even before the delivery of money. And this despite the fact that many residents recently received help from the Red Cross – 1,200 hryvnias each (2,256 rubles).

The townspeople are also worried about the increased mobilization, as well as filtration measures that are still taking place in Kherson. Under the control of Ukraine, the population feels uncomfortable.

“Summons are handed to men right at the distribution of humanitarian aid,” says Olga. – Those who have money rent apartments so that they would not be found during the raid. We talked with the members of the Armed Forces in the store – they turned out to be normal guys and even bought us food. They say that it is necessary to hide from mobilization, but they did not have the opportunity. After the rotation, there are completely different military men here, I feel sorry for them, many understand what is happening, but they are very intimidated. If these remain, then Kherson will not have to be taken by storm. Although Kyiv may send reinforcements from scumbags or nationalists.”
