Arkhangelsk “Vodnik” secured access to the final stage of the Cup of Russia

Two days later, Vodnik resumed the games of the preliminary stage of the Russian Bandy Cup, which takes place this week in Ulyanovsk. On August 18, Nizhny Novgorod “Start” was the next rival of the Arkhangelsk team. This was reported by the Ministry of Sports of the Arkhangelsk region.

Both clubs in this fight needed only a victory. After the victory over Murman in the previous round, the Volga players had chances to advance to the next round of the competition. The northerners, in turn, after the defeat from the capital “Dynamo” in order to retain the second line in the Western group, in the remaining matches should not lose a single point.

From the first minutes, the northerners did not seek to force things, but they confidently “held” the threads of the game in their hands, gradually increasing their game and territorial advantage. This time, the “vodniki” took the lead due to the implementation of set pieces. Thanks to Evgeny Dergaev and Pavel Pozhilov, by the middle of the first half, the yellow-greens were leading – 3:0. Nizhny Novgorod was able to answer this with only one accurate shot after a corner kick, but Evgeny Gromnitsky quickly restored the former difference in the score – 4:1.

At the beginning of the second half of the meeting, the Start players managed to carry out several rather sharp attacks on the gates of Mikhail Zaostrovtsev, one of which ended with their capture – 4:2. This development of events forced the people of Arkhangelsk to act more actively. This led to the fact that the “Volzhans” until the final whistle could not doubt the advantage of their opponent. Accurate shots by Mikhail Shirshov, Evgeny Dergaev, Pavel Pozhilov and Roman Ananyin allowed Vodnik to bring the match to a confident victory – 8:3.

– The guys entered the match well, creating a comfortable difference in the score in the first minutes. This allowed us to control the game and confidently bring it to victory, – said the head coach of Vodnik Ivan Maksimov.

This victory provided Vodnik with access to the next stage of the Russian Cup, but it will be decided from which place it will come out in the remaining two matches. The nearest of them will take place on August 19, when the Arkhangelsk team will play with Ulyanovsk “Volga”. Beginning at 14:00 Moscow time.
