Three sports schools in Arkhangelsk specialize in water sports. Over the past two years, a large-scale re-equipment of their material base has been carried out. The head of the city, Dmitry Morev, spoke today about the results and plans for work in this area.
– Sailing and rowing competitions are popular sports among children, and they connect the younger generation with the maritime history of our city. Therefore, we are purposefully engaged in re-equipping city sports schools,” emphasized Dmitry Morev.
This year, the Nord sailing center received 6 new Luch class yachts. The boats have already passed the first tests, and participants in interregional regattas are training on them. Last year, this sports school already purchased 8 new Optimist class boats. Plans for the near future include the acquisition of two Olympic-class single sailing yachts.
Updating the base of the Iskra sports school allowed students to prepare for passing the standards: 6 children at the age of 13-14 received their first adult categories. For training and competitions, 3 modern double kayaks were purchased.
There is also good news for the Sokolov sports school: the floating base will be replenished with two training boats for slalom and five for kayaking. Funding for this purchase has been secured.
This year’s water training season was successful. Now athletes are focused on theory and general physical training. Arkhangelsk sports schools are beginning to prepare for the next navigation and new victories.
