Arkhangelsk hosts All-Russian competitions in ship modeling sports. The solemn opening ceremony took place in the NArFU Ship Modeling Club, in a room that was specially equipped for such events. The number of athletes who came to the competition this year has doubled compared to last year, among the participants are representatives of Moscow, St. Petersburg, Samara.
Last year, the Arkhangelsk ship modellers were forced to leave the premises of school No. 11, where they had been studying and training for more than a dozen years. The governor joined in solving the problem – and soon the Northern (Arctic) Federal University provided the athletes with one of its buildings on Uritsky Street.
Major renovations have recently been completed. A unique sports facility appeared in the building, which has no analogues in Russia. It includes a modern model testing pool, laboratories and workshops. The complex has received appropriate certification from the Ministry of Sports of Russia, which gives the right to hold competitions in ship modeling and aircraft modeling sports of the All-Russian and international class.
NArFU Rector Elena Kudryashova noted that the current ship modeling competitions are held in the year of the triple anniversary: the 350th anniversary of Peter the Great, the 80th anniversary of the Solovetsky Jung School and the 85th anniversary of the Arkhangelsk region.
The ship modeling competitions are held for the 34th time. Races of radio-controlled and high-speed models will last three days. In addition, a rich excursion program and career guidance meetings await the young participants of the competition, informs the press service of the government of the Arkhangelsk region.
