Arkady Dvorkovich re-elected as FIDE President

Russian Arkady Dvorkovich was re-elected as President of the International Chess Federation (FIDE). Elections were held at the FIDE General Assembly in Chennai (India). The 15th world chess champion, Indian Viswanathan Anand, became FIDE Vice President. Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov TASS very good news is the re-election of Mr. Dvorkovich.
The representative of Ukraine Andrey Barishpolets also claimed the post of FIDE President. Other candidates – Inalbek Sheripov and Bahar Kuatli (France) – withdrew from the elections.
Mr. Peskov, following the results of the elections, said that no one could be sure of such a result in advance, “these are competitive elections, and in the competitive elections, the current head of FIDE confirmed his effectiveness, confirmed that his work is evaluated perfectly.”
Arkady Dvorkovich has been heading FIDE since October 2018. Prior to that, he served as Deputy Prime Minister of Russia.
Mr. Dvorkovich announced his intention to be re-elected in early April. Then he informedwhich should remain neutral against the backdrop of Russia’s military operation in Ukraine.
