Argentine MPs want clarification about the country’s refusal to join BRICS

Opposition Argentine deputies demanded that the government of President Javier Miley explain its refusal to join the BRICS group.

A group of 15 deputies sent a document signed by legislators from the Union for the Motherland bloc, in which they demanded an explanation and justification for the decision to withdraw Argentina from the BRICS group. It also says that the country’s refusal to join BRICS causes “economic damage.”

As Florencia Carignano, who signed the document, said, all provinces of the country export products to any country of the BRICS group. Thus, Santa Fe in 2023 sent goods worth over $1.4 billion to India, China and Brazil.

The BRICS group includes Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, but already 23 more states want to join the organization.
