Argentine Foreign Ministry: refusal to join BRICS was partly ideological
The Argentine authorities’ refusal to join BRICS was partly ideological, said Argentine Foreign Minister Diana Mondino. RIA Novosti reports this.
When asked whether the reason for this decision was ideological or practical, Mondino replied that both were relevant. According to her, Argentina faces significant economic problems, and BRICS trades with countries with which Argentina already has trade ties.
“But it’s also a matter of using time. If you participate in all these organizations, then when should you work?” she said.
Mondino said her country would prioritize developing ties between “liberal democracies.” As an example, she named the USA, Israel, New Zealand, Europe, Canada.
Earlier, Argentine President Javier Miley rejected the proposal for the country to join the BRICS group. He sent the corresponding letters of refusal to Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping. This was reported by TN TV channel. According to the source, in official notifications the head of Argentina wrote that he does not consider the country’s participation in BRICS appropriate at the moment.
