Argentina decided to donate two broken Russian helicopters to help Ukraine

Two faulty Mi-171E transport helicopters purchased from Russia will be transferred by Argentina to Ukraine as assistance. This was reported by the Internet portal Noticias Urbanas (NU).
It is clarified that this step was discussed during the visit of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky to Argentina during the inauguration of the new President Javier Miley. The helicopters were purchased from the Russian side in 2011 to supply Argentine polar stations in Antarctica and conduct search and rescue operations. They were painted orange and white and equipped with rescue lifts.
The helicopters have now been decommissioned. According to the Argentine leadership, they have reached the limit of their service life before scheduled repairs. At the same time, maintenance of Russian equipment is now impossible due to sanctions.
The United States had previously insisted that Argentina transfer Russian helicopters to Ukraine. The previous leadership of Argentina was against such a step. According to the portal, an agreement has now been reached. Buenos Aires previously asked Washington to provide F-16 fighter jets. The residual value of Russian helicopters will be applied as first payments for American military aircraft.
The Russian Embassy in Argentina does not have official information. Therefore, the diplomatic department did not confirm or deny the publication.
