April 8 – International Gypsy Day
[ad_1]
April 8 is International Gypsy Day. This holiday was established in 1971 in London, at the First World Roma Congress.
According to the established tradition, Roma around the world celebrate April 8 not only as a day of their national unity, but also as a day of remembrance for more than half a million Roma who died during the Second World War, killed in Auschwitz, Treblinka, Buchenwald, Dachau, Ravensbrück and other fascist concentration camps.
The All-Russian Public Organization “Federal National-Cultural Autonomy of Russian Gypsies”, the Gypsy National-Cultural Autonomy of the SEAD of Moscow, with the support of the Department of National Policy and Interregional Relations of Moscow, celebrate the International Day this year, 2023, by holding the following events:
April 8 at 1 pm in the church of the Holy Martyr Clement of the Pope of Rome of the Russian Orthodox Church (Pyatnitskaya St., 26, building 1) a memorial service dedicated to the memory of those who died during the Second World War will be held.
At 15:00 in the Coliseum Hall club (Prospekt Mira, 109A, 1st floor) documentaries about the participation of gypsies in the Northern Military District, about organizing humanitarian assistance for the Russian military will be shown.
Not a single gypsy holiday can do without music, songs and dances, which have long been loved in Russia, therefore, after the screening of documentaries, a grandiose concert will take place, in which gypsy artists from different cities will take part. Among them, of course, there will be Moscow performers, including artists from the world’s only gypsy theater “Romen”.
