Apple within Events Scary Fast held the premiere of the new generation of the proprietary M3 family of chips and the iMac all-in-one computer built on their basis.
The M3, M3 Pro and M3 Max family of processors became the world’s first personal computer chips created using 3-nanometer technology. The new GPU supports new Dynamic Caching technology and brings new Ray Tracing and Mesh Shading features for the first time on Mac, as well as support for AV1 decoding, delivering more efficient and high-quality video playback from streaming services. The processors support up to 128 GB of memory and are better optimized for working with artificial intelligence and machine learning. In addition to increased power and speed, the chips also provide better power consumption.
The first device to feature M3 processors was the all-in-one iMac with a 24-inch Retina display with 4.5K resolution and 500 nits brightness. The new computer is claimed to deliver up to 4x the performance of the top-of-the-line 21.5-inch iMac and up to 2.5x the performance of the best-selling 27-inch iMac.
The new product received FaceTime 1080p cameras, studio-quality microphones, as well as acoustics with six speakers and support for Spatial Audio. Declared support for Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 wireless protocols, up to four USBC ports, including two Thunderbolt ports.
The new 24-inch iMac on M3 will come in seven colors – green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, blue and silver – complete with a matching keyboard, mouse and trackpad. Acceptance of pre-orders for the computer is open from October 30, and the new product will go on sale on November 7 – the iMac will cost from $1.2 thousand for the basic version.
