Apathetic, silent, prudent // Sociologists assessed the adaptation of Russians to geopolitical changes

On the first day of the Grushin conference that opened in Moscow on Thursday, sociologists discussed what happens to ordinary Russians in an era of geopolitical change. As it turned out, in general, they adapted to the changes and assure that they did not drink and smoke anymore. The level of anxiety and the index of consumer sentiment are also within acceptable limits. True, a significant part of the citizens do not have a political party that represents their interests, but, according to experts, its apathy has become a kind of political value of Russian society. At the same time, one of the participants in the discussion wondered if the authorities were making a mistake by closing off opportunities for internal migration, while another suggested that citizens out of “prudence” were less and less likely to honestly answer questions from sociologists.
