Almost half of working Russians—39 million people—have experienced professional burnout. And now 13 million citizens (15% of all employees in the country) are going through this, according to estimates from the NAFI analytical center and the Roscongress Foundation. RBC got acquainted with the results of the study. It is reported that civil servants, specialists in the field of education and mining are most likely to burn out. The problem is most acute among middle managers and people with 11 to 15 years of experience, as well as qualified specialists.

The main reason respondents said was constant stress and nervous tension at work; this answer was given by 42% of respondents. In addition, among the factors are inadequate assessment of labor results and the discrepancy between wages and the effort expended.

“Kommersant FM” talked to businessmen from different fields and found out what they do with burnt-out staff.

Founder of Alternative Technology Future Edgar Grigoryan: “Most modern coaches tell on social networks that you shouldn’t burn out, and if your work suddenly starts to stress you out, you should leave it right away. Of course, any person will get tired of monotony, and his efficiency will drop significantly. Diversity in the process is required. We are often approached by employees who say: “I’m burning out in this line of work.” Here we need to give the person other tasks. The average time from an employee’s start to work to the first complaints of burnout is six months.”

Chairman of the Moscow Bar Association “Knyazev and Partners” Andrey Knyazev: “Yes, employee burnout does happen. And I think that it even depends not on the situation at work, but on the situation in the family. What do we do about it? We try to support using the methods that are available: financial incentives, some corporate events. As for our profession, it is connected with people, always in an argument, always on one side or the other.”

Chairman of the Board of Directors of the engineering company “2K” Ivan Andrievsky: “We, as part of the management team, are trying to assess the situation based on forecasts from Sberbank, the Central Bank and the Ministry of Economic Development, describe the current day and, based on this, project the prospects for the future development of the organization. When there are such, then employees themselves can assess their future. Thanks to this, the burnout process is minimized.”

Every fifth respondent cites overwork and conflicts with colleagues or management as the cause of burnout. Also, 20% of respondents complained about the lack of visible results of work. The impossibility of career growth, inconvenient schedules, and fines for being late were mentioned least often.
