Anticyclone “Cerberus” hit Turkey: tourists shared survival life hacks at +50

The heat from the Sahara desert to Turkey was brought by the same African anticyclone with the name of the mythological three-headed guardian dog of hell, which is now “roasting” Europe. For the Turkish Riviera, in the face of most of its guests, extreme heat came as a surprise, although weather forecasters warned about it a week ago, when the heat was still at home in Africa. Now tourists in the “burning Cerberus hell” that has suddenly fallen on them share survival life hacks with each other.

In Runet, safety measures for resting in extreme heat are mainly shared by Russian relocators with a fair amount of experience living on Turkish shores.

“Real Turks don’t care about the heat,” explains Russian Dmitry, 53 years old, who has been permanently living in the Marmaris region for the fifth year. – The locals do not go to the beach, they have air conditioners in their rooms and cars, and genetically they are more adapted to extreme positive temperatures.

– That is, the Turkish tourism industry does not consider +50 something out of the ordinary, so the tourists were not warned?

– There was a warning in the Turkish press, and even before the heat came to Europe, that +50 would come within a week and last 12-14 days. But it was not addressed to tourists, but to farmers, so that they could take measures to protect their crops and livestock. Since in the official reports of weather forecasters for the same period, there were no marks above +36 anywhere throughout the country. But that’s why Cerberus and the anticyclone roll on suddenly, not getting into long-term forecasts for two weeks in advance. Tourists were not specially reported, as well as the Russian tourism industry. Why should the Turks scare Russians, if ours refuse tours, the Turks will have losses. And on the spot, somehow, they will survive the Sahara in the Summer. My personal life hack, I’m afraid, will not be very popular with those who came just for a week to swim and sunbathe. In the heat, I switch to a nocturnal lifestyle. During the day I have a siesta: I sit at the computer and sleep under the air conditioner, and I go out to the promenade after sunset.

Now that the “Cerberus” and the climatic conditions of the “African desert” brought by it are already a given, Turkish doctors have appealed to tourists with an appeal to “restrict alcohol, go out strictly in a headdress, and those who have problems with the heart and blood vessels should not go out at all. And in the interdepartmental regime, resort doctors reported to their higher authorities about the growth due to the heat of heart problems among tourists. A Russian woman who lives permanently in the province of Antalya warns her compatriots about another important nuance. “The thermometer is now slightly above +40°C,” she writes on her blog. – But it feels like everything is +50°C. And the sea, on the contrary, got colder from +29° to +23°. My Turkish teacher explained that this was an anomaly: an anticyclone brought heat into the air, and an underwater storm brought cold water into the sea off the coast of Antalya. Tourists looking to cool off are shocked! Moreover, the situation is unsafe for health.”

– Swimming in such conditions is not “unsafe”, but harmful! – the therapist Marina Lozovskaya, who is now resting in Kemer, is sure. – Many say that a contrast shower is good for blood vessels. But here is something else. You spend 5 minutes in the sauna and dive into the ice water for seconds. And the heat in the air is constant and no one swims in the sea for one second. And this is how “cooling down”, you knock down the adaptation of the body. It will only start to work in self-cooling mode in hot weather, like it in cold water. Only he will adapt there, like him back. Would you, say, do this with your smartphone? Or with a car? That’s right, no, because you know that from such differences they can “switch off”. And even more so a person can.

– Aren’t you afraid of the heat at all? – I ask a native resident of the province of Antalya, who owns a hotel in Side.

– We don’t walk along the street during the day, and even more so on the beach under the open sun, so it’s not scary. But for our children, and they are now on vacation, we forbid swimming in such weather. In such heat, dive into the cold sea – a cold is guaranteed!

And this despite the fact that among the Turks, mostly boys of 10-15 years old dive into the sea, while the rest do not swim at all or prefer pools. And our doctors, meanwhile, persuade “not to dive sharply, having overheated before that,” at least those who are 50+ and have a history of cardiovascular problems.

– As I see people going to the beach at +50, or sitting by the pool with alcohol, I ask directly: have you ordered a heart attack and are you expecting it? – shares the Russian-speaking nurse of a large hotel in Kemer. – But the Russians still walk on the most dangerous sun, and lie under it, and climb into the sea. And everyone has excuses: some children were promised to swim with a mask, how can you refuse now? Others arrived only for a week, why sit in the room now? And the fact that we already have two heart attacks in the hotel, so “well, this is fate, it can happen to anyone.” But this is not fate, but the heat! Well, human stupidity.

In the meantime, according to weather forecasts, “cooling” to +36 on the Turkish Riviera is expected only by Thursday. In some hotels, they stopped pretending that nothing was happening, and put a “reminder on behavior in the heat” at the reception: children, the elderly and those with heart problems should refrain from walking from 10 am until sunset, listen to the body: fatigue, dizziness, headaches, cramps in the arms, legs and abdomen, increased sweating, pale and clammy skin are signs of “heat exhaustion”. A rash on the skin, redness of the eyes, red spots on the face and body are symptoms of a sun allergy. Vomiting and fainting – you already have heatstroke.
