Andrey Shevchenko elected president of the Ukrainian Football Federation – Kommersant

Ex-football player and former coach of the Ukrainian national football team Andrey Shevchenko was elected president of the Ukrainian Football Federation (UAF). In the press service of the federation clarifiedthat his deputy will be another ex-football player and current coach of the Ukrainian national team, Sergei Rebrov.

93 out of 94 participants in the extraordinary congress of the Ukrainian Football Federation spoke in support of Andrei Shevchenko’s candidacy. He doesn’t have a single competitor did not have. In a speech after his election as president, Andriy Shevchenko announced his intention to try to take Ukrainian football to a higher level, even in the context of the ongoing military conflict with Russia.

The previous president of the UAF, ex-deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Andrei Pavelko, was removed from his position by decision of members of Congress. He is currently under arrest in a pre-trial detention center on a criminal case of misuse of budget funds.

Until the summer of 2021, Andrei Shevchenko, as head coach, led the Ukrainian national team, which he led to the quarter finals of the European Championship. In mid-January 2023, he left the post of head coach of the Italian Genoa. Shevchenko is the winner of the 2004 Ballon d’Or. He retired from playing in 2012. As a football player, he played for Dynamo Kiev, Italian Milan and London Chelsea.
