Andrey Khapochkin (“United Russia”) became the new senator from the Sakhalin region in the Federation Council. This was reported in the press service of the regional parliament. Earlier, his candidacy was unanimously approved by the Committee on State Building, Regulations and Local Self-Government of the Sakhalin Regional Duma.
“The proposal to nominate Andrei Khapochkin to the upper house of the Russian parliament from the legislative body of the Sakhalin Region came from the United Russia faction. The voting was secret, the majority of deputies of the eighth convocation voted for the ex-speaker of the regional duma, ”the press service of the regional parliament said (quote from RIA Novosti).
Andrey Khapochkin was born in 1967 in the Irkutsk region. Since April 2009, he has been the head of the executive committee of the Sakhalin regional branch of United Russia. In December 2017, Mr. Khapochkin was elected Secretary of the regional branch of United Russia in the Sakhalin Region.
