Russian football player Alexander Golovin was recognized as the best player of the month in the French club Monaco. This is the second month in a row this has happened. This time the midfielder scored two goals in the victorious Ligue 1 match with the Metz club. The Russian has been playing for Monaco for five years. Did he become a world football star during this time? Kommersant FM sports commentator Vladimir Osipov looked into it.
Alexander Golovin is called the best active Russian football player. Some people disagree with this, but no one can dispute the fact that Golovin is the most expensive player in our country. The athlete’s value, according to the popular portal Transfermarkt, is €30 million. This is exactly the amount that Monaco paid the Moscow army team for him five years ago.
Moreover, after that, the price for Golovin immediately dropped to €19 million. So, in the end, during his performance in the French championship, the footballer’s value did not change. Golovin cannot be called a world-class star, football manager Yuri Belous is sure:
“No, of course, this is not a world football star. A good player, he was very lucky to be found. He has certain qualities so that people abroad understand that Russians can be of a very high level.”
And yet, recently the name of Alexander Golovin constantly appears in the French press. The Russian is doing well this season.
For example, after the ninth round of the French football championship, the midfielder was included in the team of the best players and even received a rating higher than Kylian Mbappe. And although similar stories happen to Golovin from time to time, he is also not considered a Ligue 1 star, football agent Vadim Trushkov, who lives and works in Paris, told Kommersant FM:
“When you are a star in the French championship, you automatically move to the English championship. Golovin really plays strong matches. Let’s not forget that he is not the leader in Monaco, if we look at recent years. The leader there is Ben Yedder. When he is a little in the background, as well as a couple of other players, Golovin comes to the fore when he is in shape. This is what is happening now.”
And yet Golovin is visible and sometimes shows great football, but he does not receive offers from top clubs. Very often we hear that a football player’s passport becomes a problem. They say that European top clubs do not want to get involved with players from Russia. But, according to Vadim Trushkov, this is not so: “The passport does not play any role here. He’ll at least go to Mudryk at Chelsea and hug him or, conversely, not talk.”
Without a doubt, those Russian athletes who have already moved to teams in other countries will find it easier to find a new club in Europe. But for those who remained in the RPL, it is still not easy to leave, even if there is real interest in the player, football manager Yuri Belous is sure: “The same Zakharyan had offers from the English Premier League (EPL), but when it came to that… how to transfer money, all these clubs merged immediately.”
As for Golovin, he signed a new contract with Monaco until 2026 and is definitely not going to leave France yet.
Alexander’s salary is €3.6 million per year. Moreover, he is now 27 years old, and after the end of his contract with Monaco, already at the age of 30, he will definitely be able to get comparable money in any of the rich RPL clubs. So, it seems that there is no point in waiting for the most expensive player from our country to move to some top club. But as for his new football exploits in France, this is quite possible.
