At the age of 80, the scientific director of the Institute of Biomedical Problems (IMBP) of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Anatoly Grigoriev, died, the press service of the Institute reported on Sunday.
Grigoriev died on February 11 after a severe and prolonged illness.
Since October 2008, he has been the scientific director of the IBMP RAS.
The press service noted that Anatoly Grigoriev “made a major contribution to solving fundamental and applied problems of space biology and medicine.” This “made it possible to carry out the longest manned flights in the world practice of astronautics on orbital space stations.”
Anatoly Grigoriev was the founder of space medicine. In 1988-2008, he led the medical support of space flights at the ISS, Mir and Salyut orbital stations, and was also the chairman of the Main Medical Board of the Russian Space Agency for the examination of cosmonauts, cosmonaut instructors and astronaut candidates.
