Artificial intelligence will soon begin helping metropolitan specialists conduct medical tests faster. A pilot project for the implementation of AI began at the Diagnostic Center for Laboratory Research. The first direction was liquid cytology; in the future, the experiment can be scaled up.
“At the city Center for Laboratory Research, a pilot project is being carried out to introduce a digital assistant that will be able to recognize pathological changes in the biomaterial under study in the background and signal a specialist about this. Today, AI has already passed the first stage of training and learned to recognize the “norm”; now the algorithms analyze impersonal research results with pathological changes,” said Moscow Deputy Mayor for Social Development Anastasia Rakova.
The vice mayor added that this way specialists will be able to devote more time to the most complex cases and reduce the amount of routine work, and most importantly, recognize the signs of the disease even when it is not the direct object of research.
For now, the pilot is being conducted in the direction of liquid-based cytology. This is a cytological examination method for diagnosing benign and malignant cell changes. There are plans to scale the project for use in other analyses. It is being implemented by DTsLI specialists together with Medtech residents as part of grant support from the Mayor of Moscow.
