Up to 10 percent of those hospitalized in serious condition are infected with both coronavirus and influenza or another infection. Rossiyskaya Gazeta writes about this with reference to immunologist Vladimir Bolibok.

He clarified that it became possible to determine the presence of a mixed infection after the production of multi-test systems that can detect the presence of several viruses in the nasopharynx at once. The results of the first cases of their use were recently published in foreign medical journals.

According to the immunologist, the disease often develops severely when several infections are combined. At the same time, mycoplasma infection, which the media has recently begun to scare, is itself quite weak and usually proceeds quite easily. In adults, it can cause mild cold-like symptoms. At the same time, in children it can provoke pneumonia.

Bolibok reassured that those suffering from mixed infections are usually few in number – no more than one percent of those sick with seasonal viruses. At the same time, the doctor emphasized that the treatment of such patients is usually long-term.
