An imminent “total revolution” of artificial intelligence is predicted: it will completely change life

The British Deputy Prime Minister called the pros and cons of the accelerated development of AI

Artificial intelligence can have a greater impact on developed countries like the UK than the industrial revolution, says British Deputy Prime Minister Dowden. AI technologies can help speed up government decision-making, he said, but the politician warns of serious risks of hacking.

The Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom said artificial intelligence could have a bigger impact on Britain than the industrial revolution, but warned that AI could be used by hackers to access sensitive government information.

Oliver Dowden said that artificial intelligence can increase productivity and perform boring aspects of work.

“There’s a total revolution coming,” Vice Premier Dowden told the Times. “It will completely change almost every aspect of life in the coming years, and in some cases even months. It will happen much faster than other revolutions we have seen, and much bigger, whether it be the invention of the internal combustion engine or the industrial revolution.”

Vice Premier Dowden said artificial intelligence will enable governments to make faster decisions in the future. Asylum applications processed by the British Home Office are already using artificial intelligence, and it could even be used to cut down on the paperwork that goes into ministerial red boxes.

“What AI is doing really well right now is extracting huge amounts of information from datasets in different places and getting you to the point where you can make decisions,” says Dowden. “Ministers will never outsource decision making to AI.”

But the politician warned that artificial intelligence could be used by terrorists to increase knowledge of hazardous materials or conduct large-scale hacking operations in the wake of similar attacks on the Electoral Commission and the police service in Northern Ireland.

Details of more than 10,000 officers and women from the Northern Ireland Police Service were released online within hours on Tuesday following an “industrial scale data breach”.

Dowden said: “You can reduce hacking time with artificial intelligence. The ability to do destructive things – you can use artificial intelligence to help you with this. Disgruntled people already exist. Connect them with artificial intelligence and it will expand the possibilities they can bring to life. We have to be careful not to exaggerate these things, and do so on an evidence-based basis, but there is a risk here that needs to be addressed.”

Oliver Dowden acknowledged that the development of artificial intelligence will lead to a significant restructuring of the economy, and said that the government will make sure that this does not punish people. He compared the spread of artificial intelligence to the invention of the automobile.

“We have a very tight job market and the government’s job is to make sure people can transition,” he said. “Ultimately, AI needs to be able to do the boring parts of a job so people can focus on the more interesting parts.”
