In the Greek city-state of Salamis, located on the island of Salamis, archaeologists discovered an image of Ajax, the hero of the Trojan War, in a flooded 1800-year-old building. The publication reports this Live Science.
A group of scientists has been conducting research on the coast of this area for several years. Previously, they discovered an ancient dam, and now they have discovered a covered passage over the ancient square.
While excavating the foundations of this structure, archaeologists discovered amphorae stoppers, bronze coins and fragments of marble objects, including the upper part of a 4th century BC marble stele depicting a bearded man.
Experts determined that the stele depicts Ajax, who was one of the heroes of the Trojan War. He was from Salamis and was highly revered among the locals.
