The largest iceberg on the planet A23a, which ran aground 30 years ago, has again begun an active drift to the shores of Antarctica, the press service of the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute reported.

The speed of A23a is more than 150 kilometers per month.

Now it is moving in the Weddell Sea along the coast of Antarctica, the press service specified.

According to the nomenclature of the US National Ice Center, the area of ​​this iceberg is about 4.17 thousand square kilometers, which is twice the area of ​​St. Petersburg.

The institute noted that the A23a will bring waves to “clean water”, most likely as early as 2023. And after that it will cease to exist.
