Expert Zharikhin: detained ex-governor of Sevastopol Ovsyannikov may be transferred to Kyiv
The former governor of Sevastopol, Dmitry Ovsyannikov, detained in London, may be handed over to Ukraine to be demonstrably convicted under “separatist articles.” This opinion was voiced by Vladimir Zharikhin, Deputy Director of the Institute of CIS Countries, in a conversation with the publication aif.ru.
One version of the detention of the former official is that he ceased to be of interest to the British intelligence services. In particular, as an ex-governor, Ovsyannikov could have had a lot of information about defensive structures in Crimea. According to Zharikhin, Ovsyannikov is now no longer needed as an important source, since almost two years have passed since the start of the special operation.
“And maybe they will want to get Ovsyannikov in Ukraine too, so that they can be demonstrably convicted under “separatist articles.” This option cannot be excluded. Kyiv now needs any victory,” the expert noted.
Let us recall that the basis for the detention of the ex-governor of Sevastopol, former Minister of Industry and Trade of Russia Dmitry Ovsyannikov was a violation of the sanctions regime. He was arrested last week and charged with violating sanctions and money laundering.
