The ceremony was dedicated to International Cancer Day
On February 3, on the main stage of the country, in the State Kremlin Palace, the eighth ceremony of presenting the annual All-Russian award “We will live!” took place.
The ceremony was timed to coincide with International Cancer Day, which is celebrated around the world on February 4 every year. The highest award goes to the best medical workers in the country – doctors, nurses, teams, as well as people who helped cancer patients overcome the disease or inspired them with hope for life – volunteers, journalists.
Cancer continues to be one of the main medical threats worldwide. Every year in Russia at least half a million new cancer diagnoses are made. And if twenty years ago a diagnosis of cancer in most cases meant a death sentence, today everything has changed. New breakthrough drugs and treatment methods have emerged that have increased patient survival for many pathologies to 90%. And yet very much still depends on the skill of the doctor who treats the patient; from the care of a nurse; from the support of a variety of people that a person encounters during this difficult time.
Therefore, several years ago in Russia they established the “Let’s Live!” Award, which the association of cancer patients “Hello!” presents to the best specialists and simply caring people – for courage and contribution to the fight against cancer. This year the award was given to the country’s outstanding oncologists and doctors who returned the meaning of life to people who had lost everything, including hope. Particularly noted were patients and their relatives for their courage and fortitude in the fight against the disease.The laureates were unique oncological institutions, public figures, volunteers, representatives of charitable organizations and socially responsible businesses.
This year, the winners were awarded in 15 categories: “Legends in Oncology”; Dynasty in oncology “At the call of blood!”; the best institution “Fight and search, find and not give up!”; government hand in hand with patients “In the service of good”; best nurse “Professional Care”; the best in palliative service “Don’t be afraid, I’m with you”; the best branch “Where Hope Lives”; best oncologist for adults “A pearl in the profession”; best pediatric oncologist “Wizards in white coats” and even a unique patient story. 105 people received awards.
Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Inna Svyatenko, Minister of Health of the Russian Federation Mikhail Murashko, representative of the World Health Organization Melita Vuinovich, head of the Federal Medical and Biological Agency Veronika Skvortsova, famous oncologist, academician of PAH Andrey Kaprin, head physician of the Cancer Center named after. Blokhina, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Ivan Stilidi, chief transplantologist of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation Sergei Gauthier, deputies of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, governors and regional leaders. This year the award was supported by artists Larisa Dolina, Taisiya Povaliy, Diana Gurtskaya, Anita Tsoi and other artists and cultural figures.
“Let’s Live” Award became a symbol of pure faith, hope and the fight against serious illness. The event allows us to draw widespread attention to the need to raise people’s awareness in the fight against cancer and join forces in the fight against this disease.
