Ufa athlete Radmir Bikmetov took fourth place in the international race The Last Desert 2022. An enthusiast from Bashkiria became the only Russian participant in this competition, which took place in Antarctica from November 22 to December 4. In addition to achieving a sports result, the man also pursued a charitable goal – to collect one million rubles for children with disabilities.

“We thank Radmir for his sporting deed in support of special children and congratulate him on an excellent result: it is a great honor to become fourth in one of the most difficult races in the world, and we are incredibly proud,” said Alina Khabirova, director of the Breaking Barriers center for children with disabilities.

According to the social activist, all the time of the race, her wards remotely cheered for their countryman, and every day their morning began with viewing the results of the past stage, as well as studying the current news of the competition.

“The starting point of the Last Desert race is Ushuaia, a city on the southernmost tip of Argentina,” the press service of the Public Chamber of Bashkiria said. – The test is divided into several stages, which take place in various places on the Antarctic Peninsula and offshore islands.

The start of each stage is determined precisely, and participants must strictly fit into this framework so as not to be disqualified. Athletes walk on orienteering markers and pass through a series of checkpoints where they can get water as well as medical attention if needed.

Recall that the Antarctic race The Last Desert is part of the Four Deserts ultramarathon series. This is an annual series with a route length of 250 kilometers, passing entirely through one of the most difficult places on Earth.
