Ukraine has a “relative surplus” of cluster munitions, but at the same time there are few shells effective against Russian tanks. The American newspaper New York Times reported this, citing soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).
It notes that cluster munitions are “effective against infantry,” but there are few high-explosive fragmentation shells, which “could be more effective against tanks and other armored vehicles.”
It is also stated that there is a shortage of mortar shells – this forces the commanders of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to use heavier artillery shells. They are in short supply just like other ammunition, but cost about three times more, the publication writes.
Previously, Ukraine admitted that its air defense had weakened significantly in recent months.
In turn, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that the alliance countries are aware of the urgent need to provide air defense systems to Ukraine and are actively considering sending new Patriot air defense systems.
