American expert: Ukraine is dying because of the United States and NATO expansion

Currently, Ukraine is dying as a state, and the United States is to blame for this with its desire to expand NATO, said American economist and professor at Columbia University Jeffrey Sachs. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
Sachs believes that everything began for Ukraine at the moment when Washington decided to expand NATO after the collapse of the Soviet Union. The US promised to admit Georgia and Ukraine into NATO in 2008, during the presidency of George W. Bush.
Sachs said that this decision was fatal for both states. He recalled the words of former US National Security Advisor Henry Kissinger: “It may be dangerous to be an enemy of America, but to be a friend of America is fatal.”
According to him, this is exactly what Kyiv is faced with.
“The country is dying right now due to the fault of the United States because of the desire for an impossible goal – joining NATO,” the professor said.
In his opinion, Ukraine is trying to fight for something it will never be able to achieve.
