French actor Mathieu Kassovitz has been seriously injured in a motorcycle accident. The actor, best known for the films Amelie, Bureau of Legends and Hate, which he also directed and wrote the screenplay for, is reportedly in a “worrying” state.
French actor and director Mathieu Kassovitz is in a “worrisome” state after a motorcycle accident in Greater Paris on Sunday, authorities say.
The 56-year-old actor, best known for his role in the 1995 film Hate and 2001’s Amelie, was taking a motorcycle driving course at the time, a police source told Agence France-Presse, according to The Guardian.
French media reported that he was preparing for a role in an upcoming film when he suffered “very serious injuries” including a head injury and a broken pelvis.
One of his daughters followed the actor on a motorcycle with an instructor and witnessed the accident, according to Le Parisien.
Mathieu Kassovitz was taken to a hospital in the Kremlin-Bicetre, according to authorities in Esson, south of the French capital.
Kassovitz wrote, directed and starred in La Haine at the age of 27, alongside Vincent Cassel, Hubert Kunde and Said Tagmaoui. The film follows three men within 24 hours of the riots in Paris and earned Mathieu Kassovitz the Best Director award at the Cannes Film Festival. The film also won the César Award for Best Picture, the French equivalent of the Oscars.
Kassovitz also starred as Nino’s lover in Amelie; Mossad explosives expert at Munich, Steven Spielberg; and most recently starred in the French spy thriller Bureau of Legends, which became a worldwide hit.
In his latest film, Visions, Kassovitz plays Diane Kruger’s husband, an airline pilot who begins an affair with her ex-girlfriend. The film premiered at the Angouleme Francophone Film Festival two weeks ago.
