Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov and US Ambassador to Russia Lynn Tracy met in Washington, RIA Novosti reports citing the Russian embassy.
As reported, the purpose of the meeting was to discuss issues on the bilateral agenda.
Earlier, Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov said that at present diplomatic contacts between Moscow and Washington, although maintained, are carried out irregularly.
In April, the Russian Foreign Ministry strongly protested to US Ambassador to Moscow Lynn Tracy because of her statements in support of Vladimir Kara-Murza (recognized by the Ministry of Justice as a foreign agent). “The head of the American diplomatic mission, summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry on April 18, was strongly protested in connection with provocative statements in support of V. Kara-Murza, convicted of treason and disseminating deliberately false information about the Russian army,” the department said. Recall that Vladimir Kara-Murza was sentenced to 25 years.
They also reported that all US steps to incite discord and enmity in the Russian Federation would be severely suppressed, and it was also unacceptable to use the diplomatic mission for subversive work. Diplomats who violate the Vienna Convention and abuse their status will end their stay in the country ahead of schedule.
