Ambassador Antonov: US report on Russian election interference is a compilation of speculation

The United States intelligence report on Russia’s alleged attempts to influence elections in a number of countries is a compilation of outright speculation, gossip and complete Russophobic attacks. This was stated by the Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov.

According to him, the reasons for such insinuations lie in the Biden administration’s uncertainty about the fidelity and effectiveness of methods for solving problems both within the United States and in the international arena. The diplomat emphasized that, losing its position as a world hegemon, the White House is looking for those responsible for this on the side. And by tradition, they are trying to make Russia “extreme”.

Earlier, Reuters reported on a document distributed by the US State Department, which was sent to United States embassies in more than a hundred countries around the world. The circular was prepared by American intelligence agencies. It talks about 11 recorded cases in nine countries of the world when Russia allegedly tried to undermine public confidence in elections. The document also mentions 17 less pronounced attempts to influence the electoral process through social networks.

To counter attempts attributed to Russia to influence the election results, the US State Department proposes to introduce sanctions against specific individuals interfering in the elections. It is also recommended to expel identified foreign intelligence officers and disseminate fact-based information.
