Amazon adds new AI features to Alexa voice assistant – Kommersant

The American corporation Amazon has updated its voice assistant Alexa, integrating into it the functions of the Alexa LLM language model for smart home control. Thanks to the new functionality, Alexa will be able to perform multiple commands at the same time, and will also better interpret context and understand spoken phrases.

As Amazon’s senior vice president of devices and services Dave Limp said in an interview The Verge, the Alexa LLM neural network differs from its analogues ChatGPT and Bard in that it is tailored directly to control a smart home and is optimized for working with a voice assistant. According to Mr. Limp, fundamental changes are needed today in the voice assistants segment, since in the ten years since their creation, improvements have been more evolutionary than revolutionary. Some of the Alexa functions responsible for “superhuman” understanding of commands may become paid in the future.

Alexa will be able to automatically raise the temperature in the house if the user complains that it is getting cold. If you tell Alexa that the floor is dirty, the voice assistant will automatically call the robot vacuum cleaner. If you ask to make the light “creepy,” Alexa will independently understand what the user wants from it and change the lighting in accordance with its interpretation. It will be possible to quickly and easily set regular settings, such as turning on the coffee maker and alarm clock at the same time in the morning.
