Almost half of the unemployed in Russia were women

Women in Russia make up about 50% of the unemployed, said Nina Ostanina, chairman of the State Duma committee on family, women and children.
“If we take our economy, 49.4%, in any case, such a figure is fixed in the national strategy, today women’s unemployment is,” said Ostanina (quote by Interfax). According to her, it takes women much longer to find a job than men, about seven months.
Olga Batalina, First Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Protection of the Russian Federation, also noted that women still lag behind men in terms of wages: the wage gap is narrowing, but still remains at a high level of almost 28%.
As Rosstat reported earlier, the unemployment rate in Russia for the first time since 1991 decreased to a new all-time low and amounted to 3.7% in November 2022. At the same time, the unemployment rate among women was higher than among men (3.9% vs. 3.5%). Also, the unemployment rate among rural residents exceeds that among urban residents (5.1% versus 3.2%).
The unemployment rate has been declining for several months in a row, in October it stood at 3.9%. On it today indicated and Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, noting that the situation on the labor market in Russia remains stable. The previous low was recorded in August, when the unemployment rate dropped to 3.8% for the first time since 1991.
