All-Russian tournament “Memorial of Evgeniy and Sergei Artyukhin” opened in Tambov

Today, September 30, the grand opening of the largest Greco-Roman wrestling competition “Memorial of Evgeniy and Sergei Artyukhin” took place in the region. The head of the region, Maxim Egorov, also took part in the event, noting that all athletes and spectators were united by the memory of the outstanding Tambov residents – the son and father of the Artyukhins.
In turn, the wrestler’s youngest son, Evgeny Artyukhin, expressed gratitude to the regional Government for their assistance in organizing the tournament.
The event was attended by honored guests – champions and veterans of the sport. Member of the Federation Council Alexander Karelin sent a welcoming speech to the competition participants.
In total, the large-scale sporting event brought together 140 athletes from different regions. Among them are 30 wrestlers from the Tambov region team.
It should be noted that Greco-Roman wrestling is a basic sport in the Tambov region – over 3,000 Tambov residents are fond of it.
At the festive opening ceremony of the competition, Maxim Egorov presented Tambov athletes with certificates of assignment of categories. Also, a prize from the Head of the Tambov region was established specifically for the anniversary competition.
