All-Russian ski jumping competitions started in Sakhalin

The all-Russian ski jumping competition “Sakhalin Cup” started in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk on October 13, the press service of the regional Ministry of Sports reported.

Athletes will compete in flight distances at the Vysota ski jump complex. More than 40 people from the Sverdlovsk, Magadan, Sakhalin, Nizhny Novgorod regions, Perm Territory, the Republic of Bashkortostan and St. Petersburg took part in the competition.

The athletes were greeted by the Deputy Minister of Sports of the island region Stanislav Tyurin, who wished everyone to reach their maximum potential, show good jumps and not be afraid to set records.

Let us note that all jumpers will fly under the strict supervision of the head coach of the Russian ski jumping team, Evgeniy Plekhov, and the representative of the Russian Jumping and Combined Federation, Dmitry Zubkov.

“Today’s competitions are an excellent step in preparing our athletes for the Russian-Chinese games, which will take place in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk in 2025. Our country’s athletes have a great opportunity to get to know Sakhalin and experience acclimatization,” said Mikhail Shamsutdinov, director of the regional winter sports school.

On the first day of the competition, flying skiers demonstrated their best qualities in individual jumps.

Among boys 14-16 years old, Ignatiy Mukhin from the Sverdlovsk region won first place, Egor Vasiliev from St. Petersburg took second place, Alexander Pushkin from the Sverdlovsk region closed the top three. Among the girls in this age category, Veronika Pavlova from the Nizhny Novgorod region took gold, Sofia Rogaleva from the Perm Territory took silver, and Anastasia Belyakova from the Republic of Bashkortostan took bronze.

The record jump at the competition was made by Ignatiy Mukhin, who flew 80 meters. However, there were those who were not able to show their best jumps. One of these was the Nizhny Novgorod athlete Danil Rogalev, who became fifth.

“In the first attempt I couldn’t jump well enough. At the time of the flight, it was not possible to fully compose myself, hence the result. But we just have to understand our mistakes and correct them in the next training sessions,” Danil said. “I really liked Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, your city is beautiful, especially colorful in the fall.”

In the age category of 12-14 years among boys, Eddar Korzhan from Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk took first place, Grigory Kasmynin took second place, and Anton Savenkov took third place (both from the Magadan region). Among the girls, Diana Ermolenko from Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk was the best, Daria Chervonaya from the Magadan Region was in second place.

On Sunday the competition will continue in the mixed team format. Starts at 11:00 at the Vysota springboard complex.
