All-Russian Running Day will be celebrated in the Murmansk region

In the capital of the Kola Arctic, on September 16, the All-Russian Running Day will be celebrated and the “Cross of the Nation – 2023” will be held. The competition will be held in the region for the 19th time – read about its history and traditions in the material “MK in Murmansk”.
It is believed that in Russia “Cross of Nations” originated in 1918 in Petrovsky Park. The future national champion Nikolai Bocharov won the 4.5 km race with a result of 15 minutes 42 seconds.
Officially, the event has been held since 2004 with the aim of promoting a healthy lifestyle and traditionally consists of two stages: regional and Grand Prix, which takes place in Moscow.
Not only athletes or amateurs take part in the competition, but also thousands of schoolchildren, students, state employees, civil servants and people with disabilities of different ages. Public accessibility and democracy are the distinctive features of Cross.
In 2007, for example, the race took place in 133 cities and gathered more than a million people, while the year before, 700 thousand Russians from 86 settlements went out for a run.
Distances included are one, two, four, six, eight and 12 kilometers.
The organization is carried out by the Ministry of Sports, Tourism and Youth Policy of the Russian Federation, the All-Russian Athletics Federation, executive authorities in the field of physical education and more.
In Murmansk Cross will be held in the Valley of Comfort. The city administration clarifies that registration of participants and issuance of starting numbers takes place on the third floor of the sports complex:
- from 10:00 to 18:00 from 11 to 15 September;
- from 08:30 to 11:00 September 16.
Formerly MK in Murmansk wrote that a total of 29 sporting events will be held in the region in September.
