All-Russian Greco-Roman wrestling competitions began in Tula

On December 16, Saturday, the All-Russian Greco-Roman wrestling competition for the prizes of Olympic champion Shamil Khisamutdinov started at the Tula Arena multifunctional sports center.
The head of the Ministry of Sports of the Tula Region, Dmitry Yakovlev, addressed all the guests with a welcoming speech. He said that the regional government and Governor Alexey Dyumin personally pay great attention to the development of sports and healthy lifestyle events in the region as a whole.
Greco-Roman wrestling, the minister continued, helps develop such positive character traits in young people as perseverance, the ability to reach their goals, and many others. The example of Shamil Khisamutdinov, an Olympic champion, is legendary for wrestlers.
At least 200 athletes from 20 constituent entities of the Russian Federation, as well as from neighboring countries, will compete for medals. The competition will end with the announcement of the winners and runners-up on Sunday, December 17th.
The competition is held within the framework of the federal project “Sport is the norm of life” of the national project “Demography” on the initiative of the President of Russia.
Shamil Khisamutdinov is an athlete from the city of Uzlovaya, Tula region, a legendary Greco-Roman wrestler, 1972 Olympic champion, twice world champion, Honored Master of Sports of the Soviet Union, and later Honored Coach of the Soviet Union.
