All-Russian foil fencing competitions among men and women were held at the Ilgar Mamedov Fencing Center in Khimki, Moscow Region, on January 11-12.
Samara foil fencer Kirill Borodachev excelled in the men’s tournament. This is Kirill’s fourth victory in the 2022/2023 season. Previously, he won the All-Russian Spartakiad of the strongest, the All-Russian tournament in Moscow and the international competition “Foil of St. Petersburg”.
Among women, the winner was Muscovite Svetlana Tripapina. Note that this season Svetlana invariably rises to the podium. She took third place at the Spartakiad of the strongest and at the November all-Russian competitions, became the second at the international tournament “Foil of St. Petersburg”, and then became the best at the Russian Cup.
The surprise of the tournament was the failure of the Olympic champion Marta Martyanova, who first lost to her friend in the “golden” Russian national team of Tokyo, Adeline Zagidullina, and then lost to Valeria Rassolova in the consolation round, not getting into the quarterfinals.
