All-Russian artificial wave surfing competition was held in Moscow

The first All-Russian artificial wave surfing competition took place with the support of the Russian Surfing Federation yesterday, January 27, the organization’s press service said. The event was attended by 49 athletes from all over the country, they had to catch the most powerful artificial wave in Russia at the Surf Brothers site in Moscow. As a reminder, surfing became an Olympic sport in 2016.
“The Russian Surfing Federation supports the holding of all-Russian competitions on artificial waves, which play an important role in the development of this sport. Urban surfing is steadily gaining popularity in our country; new surf clubs with artificial waves are now being planned to open, which will also become training centers for surfers and venues for future competitions,” said Alexander Vainshtein, President of the Russian Surfing Federation.
In the PRO category among men, the strongest were Pavel Persiyanov, Alexander Panteleev, Daniel Zakirzyanov. Among women, the prizes went to Aksiniya Semenova, Evgenia Tarambina and Varvara Kolushova. There were also open competitions in three categories based on skill level, including among children and surfers over 50 years old.
Among the winners and participants of the tournament are athletes who have managed to make a name for themselves on the world stage, for example, 15-year-old Aksiniya Semenova from the Surf Brothers team. Last year in Switzerland, she became the first ever champion from Russia at the Urbansurf Zurich Open 2023 competition as part of the Edelweiss Pro Tour.
“Competitions of this scale are being held in Russia for the first time, but this is only the beginning of a long journey. Innovative artificial wave facilities, such as in Skolkovo, create conditions for excellent training for our team. Already now, Russians manage to take first places in competitions in Europe, but I am sure that soon our surfers will supplant world-famous stars,” said Vasily Prachev, a representative of the competition’s organizing committee.
